Louisville Academy of Music (LAM)

Since 1954, LAM has been Louisville's cornerstone of music education — delivering nearly one million lessons and counting. Today, 30 faculty members teach over 650 students annually across 14,000+ lessons in voice, piano, guitar, band and orchestra instruments, and composition. We believe music is for everyone. Our need-based scholarships have awarded over $340,000 to hundreds of students since 2020, and we currently support 100+ students with financial aid — plus thousands more through free community partnerships spanning 50+ zip codes. Our Inclusive Learning program welcomes neurodivergent students with ASD and ADHD, and students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities have a home here. LAM isn't just lessons — it's long-term mentorship. Many students stay 5–12 years; one adult student has been with us for over 30. Each year, our work reaches thousands of community members through performances and programs. In 2024, we were honored with the Kentucky Governor's Award in the Arts (Education) — a reflection of 70 years of impact and a future full of promise. There is a place for everyone at LAM.
