Sunset Chasers, This One’s Yours!

Sunset Chasers, This One’s Yours!

The Summer Solstice arrives June 21, bringing the longest day of the year and the unofficial peak of late-sunset season. Think live music, time on the water, and family-friendly outdoor fun while daylight is still on your side!

Whether your ideal June day involves a sailboat, a scoop of ice cream, or a theater seat, this year's solstice-adjacent events prove there's more than one way to enjoy those extra hours.

From Ice Cream to Open Water

On June 20, Cave Run Lake kicks things off with the 2026 Summer Sailstice Celebration & Raft-Up. It's part of a worldwide Summer Sailstice tradition that connects sailors in thousands of boats across multiple countries, but Cave Run's version keeps the focus on a simple idea: spend the longest weekend of the year out on the water with other people who'd rather be sailing than doing just about anything else.

Head to the Berea College Forestry Outreach Center on June 21 for Sun Day & Sundaes, where you’ll find a simple formula that has family outing written all over it: nature activities, crafts, and ice cream. Scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m., the event gives kids a chance to learn a little about the changing season while staying busy outdoors. Parents get an hour of structured entertainment. Everyone gets dessert. That's a fairly efficient use of a Sunday afternoon.

A Different Kind of Summer Evening

The weekend's outdoor activities give way to music on June 22 when Bowling Green's Summer Solstice Concert: A Celtic Celebration takes over The Capitol at 7 p.m.. The evening combines Irish music, storytelling, and poetry inside one of downtown's most recognizable historic venues, offering a more relaxed way to keep the solstice spirit going after the official date has passed.

Taken together, these events highlight what makes this stretch of June so enjoyable. There's enough daylight to spend an afternoon outdoors and still have time for evening plans. If your calendar has been looking a little empty lately, consider this your reminder to fix that!
