Where the Dough Rises Before You Do

Where the Dough Rises Before You Do

There are two kinds of morning people: the ones who wake up ready to conquer the day, and the ones who require caffeine, sugar, and a quiet moment before anyone asks them a question. Dough Baby Donuts understands both. This locally owned, handmade donut shop starts its day long before most alarms go off, with Spencer and his crew working before sunrise so every batch is fresh, warm, and ready to rescue your morning.

But Dough Baby Donuts is more than a quick stop for a glazed pick-me-up. Its story stretches back more than 20 years, when Spencer’s grandparents opened Finley’s Donuts in the same old church building the shop calls home today. Spencer’s grandfather used to call the little bundles of dough rising on the table “dough babies,” and now Spencer is making dough babies of his own. That kind of history gives the place its charm, but the real magic is in the way it feels. Family run, hometown rooted, and full of easy warmth, Dough Baby treats family less like a last name and more like a way of welcoming people in.

Add in local coffee, a revolving donut of the month, and a food truck that brings the sweetness on the road, and it’s easy to see why Dough Baby Donuts has become a Kentucky favorite. Their 2026 Best of Kentucky Award feels less like a surprise and more like confirmation that fresh donuts, local roots, and a whole lot of heart still make a pretty unbeatable recipe.
