A Little Mystery in the Mountains!

A Little Mystery in the Mountains!

The Red River Gorge already draws people looking for a weekend that feels a little different. Between the hiking trails, cabin stays, climbing spots, and winding mountain roads around Slade, the area has become one of Kentucky’s favorite places to unplug for a couple days and spend more time outside.

The Red River Gorge Bigfoot Festival on May 30 just adds another layer of personality to it.

Set inside Stanton City Park, the festival blends mountain folklore with a weekend full of live music, food trucks, local vendors, guest speakerscontests and more! Somewhere between the trail maps, kettle corn, and Sasquatch stickers, the event lands in a sweet spot that feels distinctly Red River Gorge.

Where the Gorge Leans Into the Legend

Part of the festival’s appeal is how naturally it folds into the rhythm of the Gorge itself. People stop through after morning hikes. Campers wander over during the afternoon. Cabin groups work it into the weekend schedule before heading back toward campfires later that night.

That mix gives the festival a personality that feels connected to the region instead of staged for tourists passing through.

The Bigfoot angle also works surprisingly well here because the Gorge already carries a little mystery on its own. The dense tree cover, hidden trails, and quiet stretches of forest make the setting feel perfectly suited for a festival built around local legend and outdoorsy fun.

That balance is what makes the festival work. It doesn’t try to compete with the scenery around it. It simply gives visitors another reason to spend the weekend exploring one of Kentucky’s most recognizable outdoor destinations with a little extra character mixed in.

By the end of the day, most visitors leave with muddy shoes, a few new photos, and at least one Bigfoot story they’ll probably keep retelling long after the weekend’s over.
