Safe Haven for Dogs
One of the biggest concerns pet owners have when leaving their furry family member in someone else’s care is that their pup will become just another cute face in the crowd. Pet owners want more than supervision. They want peace of mind, personalized attention, and the sense that their dog is enjoying the day too.
If dogs could leave online reviews, most would probably have the same complaint about their humans: “Leaves every morning. Returns eventually. Communication could improve.” Since dogs can’t exactly weigh in on their own care, owners have to find a place where their pups won’t simply be watched while they’re away but will be loved, engaged, and treated like family.
Whiskey Lou’s Doggie Daycare and Boarding has built a loyal following by offering exactly that. Inspired by Whiskey Lou, a rescue puppy abandoned on Whiskey Row in Louisville at just 12 weeks old, the business was created to provide a safe, loving environment for every dog in its care. Guided by the motto “Work Hard, Paws Harder,” the team focuses on individualized care that fits each dog’s personality, needs, and energy level.
The facility offers daycare, overnight boarding, and bathing, with days filled with playtime, games, exercise, cuddles, and regular updates for owners. Dogs also have room to be dogs, with 18 acres of fenced-in play areas where they can run, explore, and play safely.
The mission goes beyond business. Since opening, the rescue family has continued to grow, with many more rescue dogs finding homes and two new rescue pups recently joining the pack. Whiskey Lou’s also donates 10% of annual proceeds to animal shelters in need.
That mix of compassionate care and community impact helps explain Whiskey Lou’s recognition as a 2026 Best of Kentucky Regional Award winner. On August 8, the team will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a special adoption event, helping even more dogs find loving homes.
